Park attractions opened for FREE in exchange of non-perishable food donations ... Over 19,000 joined White River State Park as we celebrated Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with Free Admissions on Monday January 16th (@WhiteRiverStPrk)!

INDIANAPOLIS – For the 12th year in a row, visitors to White River State Park attractions received FREE admission and free parking on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, January 16th, with canned good donations (at least one can per person, per attraction was required) ... MLK, Jr. Day = FREE Admission Day at White River State Park attractions + Food Drive + Health Screenings + Blood Drive + ... ! This continued partnership between White River State Park and Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana has resulted in more than 166,800 pounds (over 83 tons) of non-perishable and canned food donations through this year!
In addition, cash donations were accepted in exchange of non-persishable and canned food donations. The funds received will help provide over 2,000 meals extra meals! Activities took place throughout the day at the six (6) major attractions that make up White River State Park: Eiteljorg Museum, IMAX® Theater, Indiana State Museum, Indianapolis Zoo (and White River Gardens), NCAA® Hall of Champions, and Victory Field (Indianapolis Indians Baseball).
Park visitors received FREE health screenings indoors at Victory Field (Indianapolis Indians Baseball), as a courtesy of Wishard Health Services. New this year! Thanks to a partnership with the Indiana Blood Center, the IMAX® Theater held its first blood drive. This was a tribute to First Responders, who are showcased in the new IMAX® feature film, Rescue 3D, that debuted on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day for White River State Park visitors. Also, blood donors received a predetermined free concession item. White River State Park offered complimentary parking on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Visitors were able to park in the Underground Garage located off Washington Street in front of the Indiana State Museum (and Eiteljorg Museum), in the outdoor surface parking lots at the Indianapolis Zoo (and White River Gardens) and Victory Field, and in the outdoor surface parking lot across from Victory Field next to the White River State Park's Visitor’s Center.
Parking was not guaranteed and was on a first-come, first-served basis. Thank you to all that planned their parking and travel accordingly. As a note, click here for maps and many downtown parking options.
