The Wishard Slow Food Garden at White River State Park

A 6,000 sq ft garden at the Park's crosspoint with opportunities to observe and engage in a working urban farm. Get Involved! Each crop variety has been chosen based on at least one of these distinctions: suited to urban growing conditions; promoting crop biodiversity or sustainable farm practices; heirloom, rare, or endangered that preserves agricultural and/or socio-cultural heritage; more.

This greenspace and terraced amphitheater is the perfect place to relax while gazing at the Indianapolis skyline or admiring the wildlife flourishing along the White River. You’ll find the Totem sculpture south of the NCAA® Hall of Champions Museum and McCormick’s Rock (signifying Indianapolis first resident) above a 17-foot waterfall where the Historic Central Canal flows into the White River. The amphiteather serves as the home of the Park’s FREE Family Arts Series during the warmer months.

Historic Military Park

Toss a Frisbee, walk your dog, or simply settle into the grass in our 14-acre greenspace, which borders the IUPUI campus. Named after its shape as a military badge, Historic Military Park was a Civil War encampment and home to Indiana’s first state fair. It also holds distinction as one of three pieces of property the state is forbidden to sell (Monument Circle and the part of the Statehouse known as “the State House Square” are the other two). Today, it’s home to Indianapolis' largest festivals and events.

The Oval

The name says it all! Our oval-shaped greenspace centrally located between the White River State Park's Visitor's Center and Historic Pumphouse accommodates over 400 guests for special events, kick-offs, speaker series, presentations, demonstrations, weddings, fitness training, picnics, or family reunions.

You’ll feel as though you’ve found a secret passage as you wander along our White River Ppromenade, a half-mile walkway lined with flowering trees and evergreens that offers unique views of the White River and the Indianapolis skyline. Look for the hand-carved “rose window," renderings of famous buildings, and other constructions from Indiana limestone. The embedded artwork is carved into the limestone blocks along the trail.

Located West of our waterfront near White River Parkway just beyond White River Promenade, this greenspace is perfect for special event kick-offs, speaker series, fitness training, religious events, or weddings for over 100 guests. This destination features terraced limestone stonework and natural elevated seating spaces.

This photo-op destination on White River State Park's West side across the Historic Old Washington Street Pedestrian Bridge and White River , is located along the Indianapolis Zoo and White River Gardens Southwest backside border. It includes artisticly enhanced covered pavilions accommodating special events, kick-offs, speaker series, presentations, fitness training, weddings, or picnics for over 100 guests. With gorgeous views of White River State Park's East side, White River and it's flourishing wildlife, and Indianapolis downtown, this area engages experiences for memorable events for future generations!

Jog, run, or walk along our series of paths, pedestrian-safe bridges, and trails. Along the way, enjoy the White River overlooks, a covered picnic area, and benches. Our waterfront pathways connect to the city’s award-winning greenways trail system.
